Biography

Jeff Dreher, a trigenarian from Bangor, Maine, is currently in his eleventh year as a New Media student at the University of Maine. Taking time off due to undecidedness, starting a family, and lack of funds, he is now approaching the acquisition of a college degree with the when it happens, it happens mantra. Jeff, who is currently employed as a graphic designer and manager at a small graphic design firm and art gallery in Ellsworth, Maine, loves to spend his spare time not working with his wife and young daughter. Having been interested in design, computers, math, engineering, music and design from a young age, Jeff honed his skills through the last ten years in college, and through many extra-curricular activities and classroom settings. When (if) he obtains his degree in New Media, Jeff ultimately hopes to go into business for himself in a design (web and print), marketing and consulting manner.

Creative Statement

Besides the allure of spending over nearly three hundred dollars per credit hour, I am a New Media student for the expansion and development of my creative process and skillset. My motivations for continued enrollment include, but are not limited to: increased wages, more lines to add to a resumé, sleeping better at night, smug satisfaction, putting something in that frame I bought for my diploma three years ago, and nights not filled with homework. I, as my core, am mostly interested with interface design, specifically, the design of clean, intuitive graphical interfaces for interacting with software. Working with the whole range of Adobe Creative Suite products, as well as old- fashioned pencil and paper, I like to conjure ideas and mold them into real- life products. I am currently still riding the touch-screen bandwagon, and like to imagine new ways to interact that utilize that platform.
